The All India Forensic Science Entrance Test (AIFSET) is a national-level entrance exam that allows candidates to enroll in forensic science programs at various participating universities.

What is AIFSET?

All India Forensic Science Entrance Test (AIFSET) is a national level entrance exam to take admission into the forensic science courses of its various participating universities. Candidates who want to make their career in this field can apply for the course through this examination. The duration of the course is three years for the Bachelor program and two years for Masters Program.

Forensic Science

Forensic Science course is for the individuals who are interested in building their career in this field. The program equips students with skills to analyze and interpret criminal investigation and crime scenes.Forensic Science predominantly focuses on crime scenes, graduates who are called upon in civil matters such as verifying the authenticity of signatures or other critical documents. The professionals are consulted in cases where there may be suspicions of unethical practices.

Forensic Science is classified
into three groups

Medical Data Science
includes forensic pathology, psychiatry, psychology, forensic medicine and ontology.

Field Science
include crime scene investigation which incorporates areas such as fire and explosion scenes and secret drug laboratories.

Laboratory Science
includes chemistry, biology, toxicology, ballistics, fingerprints, suspected documents, and marks & impressions.

B.SC Forensic Science : The Candidate must have a minimum educational qualification of higher secondary school (10 + 2) or any equivalent education with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and/or Mathematics as the main subjects with a minimum aggregate of 50%. Candidates who are due to appear in the (10 + 2) examination are also eligible to apply. Candidate can attempt AIFSET exam max three times.


M.SC Forensic Science : The Candidate must have completed their graduation in B.Sc forensic science or B.Sc in relevant subjects or stream from a recognised University with a minimum aggregate 50 percent. Those who are in the final semester of the Bachelor Programme are also eligible to apply. Candidate can attempt AIFSET exam max three times.

Application Fees

Interested candidates must pay a non-refundable application fee of INR 2000/- to be eligible for the examination. The individual's candidature will only be confirmed upon successful payment of the application fee.
The fee can be paid via the official website's payment portal using any online payment method, such as debit/credit cards or internet banking.

Exam Pattern

  • 1. The AIFSET 2025 exam will be held online, and candidates can take it using a mobile, laptop, or desktop device.
  • 2. The exam will consist of a single question paper with a duration of 60 minutes.
  • 3. The question paper will carry a total of 100 marks.
  • 4. The questions will be presented in English.
  • 5. Each correct answer will earn 1 mark, and there will be no negative marking for incorrect responses.

Career in Forensic Science

A career in Forensic Science is largely determined by an individual's chosen area of specialization.


The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the country’s police departments also hire forensic science graduates. CBI’s Forensic laboratory in Delhi recruits candidates through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam.

Successful graduates can find job opportunities in government and private agencies, as well as in hospitals and laboratories.

Other areas include: Anti-terrorist operations, Mass Disaster Management, Cybercrime Investigation, Protection of Human Rights, Environment, Consumer and Intellectual Property Rights.
